01 / THE ROLE, CLEARLY DEFINED

A point of contact.
A defined responsibility.

A registered agent is the person or eligible service designated to receive service of process and specified official notices for an entity. The registered office must meet the state’s requirements. This role is different from providing a general mailing address or managing every compliance obligation.

California Secretary of State: agent for service of process

Voda’s company setup services are separate from its high-risk merchant account placement for hard-to-place and non-traditional businesses. Formation, banking and processing reviews have their own requirements.

THE NOTICE RELAYSkip the story
  1. ACT 01 / ARRIVAL

    A notice arrives.

Legal and state correspondence needs an eligible recipient. Start with the entity, the state and the agent currently on record.

  2. ACT 02 / RECIPIENT

    Someone is designated.

A registered agent has a specific role. Confirm coverage, eligibility and how the appointment is recorded with the state.

  3. ACT 03 / HANDOFF

    The handoff matters.

Agree how documents will reach your company contact. Keep that contact current and know who will act on a time-sensitive notice.

  4. ACT 04 / CONTINUITY

    Keep the line open.

Review renewal terms and state records when an agent or office changes. A dependable contact plan continues after formation.

THE HANDOFF / A ROLE WITH BOUNDARIES

01 / RECEIVE

Service of process

A designated recipient can receive legal documents within the role permitted by state law. Receiving a notice does not provide legal representation or resolve its subject.

02 / ROUTE

Official correspondence

Discuss the notices covered by the service and the company contact who should receive them. The entity remains responsible for its own required action.

03 / SEPARATE

General business mail

A registered office is not automatically a customer-facing office, operating location or general mailbox. Review any address or mail service separately.

Service of process: agree on the notification method and who in your company will respond.

Call (737) 775-5066
Is registered agent service the same as a business address?

No. A registered agent receives specified official or legal documents. A business address may be used for other purposes only when the service terms and the receiving institution permit it.

Can I serve as my own registered agent?

Some states permit an eligible individual to act as agent if the registered office and availability requirements are met. Review the applicable state rules and the practical consequences before choosing.

Do I need an agent in every state?

An entity may need a registered agent in each state where it is registered, subject to that state’s rules and entity type. Discuss your actual registrations rather than assuming one appointment covers every state.

How do I change my registered agent?

The state usually requires an appropriate change filing or update. Confirm acceptance, the effective appointment and any transition arrangements before ending an existing service.

Are filing reminders or mail scans included?

Do not assume they are. Ask Voda to confirm state coverage, notification methods, document handling, renewal terms and any separately priced features.

Does an agent keep my company compliant automatically?

No. The company retains its reporting, tax, licensing and other responsibilities. An agent appointment supports the contact process but is not a substitute for those duties.
